How to use Pinterest: 5 easy steps for beginners

What’s Pinterest and how to use it in 5 easy steps? This is a guide for beginners and for anyone who would like to use Pinterest and discover its world. Pinterest is a visual discovery engine which lately has grown at a very fast pace with all the different topics it covers. By using it you’ll be able to access and share ideas, skills, information and grow as a person by expanding your knowledge. Pinterest has everything from recipes, fitness, home décor, diet, nutrition, learning new skills, finance, business and so much more. It started as an American image sharing and social media service designed to enable saving and discovery of information (specifically "ideas") but now it is considered more like a search engine. Let me guide you step by step and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me. I am also open to having new posts and videos requests as I would like to be able to cover any information needed from my community.

1 First of all, you have to create an account by clicking or tapping Sign up or if you already have one just Log in. You can choose a personal account or a business account or you can have both if you want to. If you are new to Pinterest at one point, during your “sign up “ process, you will be asked to select some topics which interest you or if it is a business account some topics which your business is about. You need to choose at least one topic but usually there is always more than one which if you have a business that can be a good factor in bringing more traffic to your website.

2 Next step is pretty easy to follow as Pinterest will show you how to create a pin, how to upload it, where to insert the title of the Pin and where to add the destination link. You can publish it straightaway or you can select it at a later date. After that you’ll be able to see your brand new interest account and by going to “settings” you’ll be able to add more information about your profile and website, claim other accounts on other social media and more.

3 Now that I have given a very quick guide on how to open a Pinterest account I can guide you on how to access and use this amazing search engine. The majority of people will have a “personal account” and they will access it through an app which can be downloaded on “Google play store”. When you access Pinterest the first thing you’ll see is the “Home page”. In this page you’ll be able to access Pins based on your daily, weekly or monthly activity as well as pins of people you follow or even boards and topics which you are a follower of. That can be accessed by clicking or tapping “All” at the top left-corner and there you can also find “Today” (to see daily inspirations or ideas) and “Following” (to see the pins and boards of the people who you are following).

4 When you select a pin, the image of it will appear larger and you’ll be able to access its description and a web link if provided. Usually if the Pin is part of a business account it will have a website linked to it. To access the link on a laptop or pc click directly on the link otherwise if you are on a mobile tap “visit” and it will bring you to the website page. Pins can also be saved on your Pinterest account if you like them or if you want to check a website later. Lastly if you would like to follow the person who has created the pin and get notified when another pin is published or accessed, all their pins you can tap or click on “Follow”.

5 To open your profile page and access boards and pins which you have created or saved or any other content from other people’s accounts, you can tap (if you are on your tablet or mobile) on the person icon which is on the bottom-right corner. If you are accessing your profile page on your computer than you’ll need to click on the person icon or photo which is on the top right-corner. There you’ll be able to find all the boards and pins which you have created or saved and others which belong to the people who you are following.

6 In order to personalise your account and amend settings, if you are on a computer you can click on the pencil icon and if you are on a mobile you can tap on the gear icon.

- Select “Edit profile” add or amend personal information such as your profile photo, name, username, email address etc.

- Select “ Account settings” to amend your email, password, gender, deactivate or close account.

- Select “Search” to look for information, ideas, inspirations etc.

- Select “Get a free business account” to create a business account.

- Select “Notifications” to set preferences on how you would like to be notified of new activity
